This being my first visit to Detroit, I was looking to get a sample of what the gay scene was like. Backstreet was the only gay club that my friends knew of so I checked it out. Its not easy to locate, as its located in a shopping plaza and is recessed far from the street so if you are simply looking for the address you will miss it.The outside of the place is not much to look it, and but for the fact that the plaza’s parking lot was full at midnight on a saturday, nothing really would have clued me in to a club here. There was a pretty shabby sign, that led down a somewhat deserted alleyway taking you to the place. Now onto the important stuff:1) Music–off da chain! This DJ was better than most of the ones I hear in atlanta clubs; played a lot of recent stuff, nice mixes. I can usually restrain myself from the urge to get on the dance floor but this dude made it impossible.2) Dance floor- right in the middle of the place. I liked how it is sort of elevated so you are above all the onlookers3) Drinks-reasonably priced, bartenders werent that sharp though, and in terms of intensity my drinks were in the average to weak range.4)Boys- HOT! Lots of youngns, a few older. But overall very nicely mixed crowd, diverse enough, I couldnt see anyone being uncomfortable here regardless of age, race, style..plenty of str8 girls as wellMy least favorite part was the $10 cover but I think its only$5 before midnight. Also the neighborhood seemed a little sketchy so wouldnt leave any valuables behind in my car.Otherwise, if you want an unpretentious, diverse, gay club to dance and drink at, this fits the bill
