The popular Tampa strip club, 2001 Odyssey, known for its iconic rooftop spaceship, has recently undergone a unique procedure – tenting for bugs. The club, frequented by sports fans and architecture enthusiasts alike, decided to tackle the termite issue during their slowest time of the year.
Don Kleinhans, the club’s owner, revealed that the decision to tent the establishment had been in the works for six months. With the termite infestation limited to the wood inside the club and its adjacent restaurant, Riveters, the silver landmark, the spaceship, remained unaffected. Luckily, the spaceship is made of fiberglass and metal, making it termite-proof.
The extermination process was carried out by Haskell Termite and Pest Control. The impressive task involved tenting the entire building, spaceship included. To cover the spaceship on the roof, a special lift was used, turning the procedure into a fun and unique project for the pest control team.
The tenting took place on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, and is scheduled to be removed on Wednesday afternoon. With this proactive approach, 2001 Odyssey ensures that it continues to be an iconic landmark and a must-see spot in Tampa for years to come.
