According to an incident report, a member of the security staff at Nite Moves Gentlemen’s Club claimed that Lewis punched him in the head when he was asked to leave the club. Although the staff member chose not to press charges, he requested that Lewis be prohibited from returning to the establishment.
Colonie Police Lt. Daniel J. Belles stated, “Mr. Lewis was verbally advised that he is no longer welcome at that establishment, so he could face a trespass charge if he returns there.”
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. and started when club staff suspected Lewis of using his phone in violation of club rules. When asked to leave, Lewis allegedly threw money at a security staff member’s face. The manager of the club called the police.
Attempts to contact Lewis through his agent, J.R. Rickert, were unsuccessful. Nite Moves co-owner Stephen Dick Jr. mentioned that he was not present at the club that night and was unaware that the customer involved was Lewis, who had a successful NFL career playing for teams like the Patriots, Titans, and Giants.
Dick explained in a Facebook message that the altercation may have been provoked by Lewis and his friends attempting to bring in alcohol and record the club’s stage, both of which are against the club’s policies. He also mentioned that there was a scuffle between the security staff member and Lewis, but he couldn’t confirm if any punches were thrown.
Lewis, 32, retired from professional football in August 2021. In December of the same year, he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Guilderland. He had previously been working as Albany County’s community health wellness coordinator but is no longer employed in that role.
The University at Albany hired Lewis as an assistant running backs coach in March. Head coach Greg Gattuso, who is currently on vacation, expressed that he has no knowledge of the incident and is investigating the situation.
